Here are a few other ways in which I think that the iPhone ecosystem can be improved.
iPhone OS
- Integrate a reverse lookup feature for phone numbers not in the contact list.
- Allow downloading of podcasts and apps in the background.
- Allow deletion of podcasts and photos on the phone.
- Widgits would be interesting. Having some items be switches, like for wifi, gps, or Bluetooth would be really helpful.
- Allow program icons to live update. For example, why doesn’t the weather icon show the current temperature? The calendar icon currently something does this.
- As discussed elsewhere, an improved alerts system.
- As forecast elsewhere, there are rumors that iPhone OS4 will have some facility for 3rd party multitasking. Having lcation-based phone behavior (whether updating latitude or foursquare) would be interesting.
- Replying to an email that you sent should be smart enough to put the original recipient’s email address in the To field instead of your own.
ITunes
- When content is added to the phone, buy prior to syncing, the space bar at the bottom should show the results, so you can gauge how much free space you’ll have left.
- One should be able to queue up content to be synced without having the iPhone connected. Currently if a device is not connected, iTunes almost forgets that the device exists.
- Make iTunes work well on Windows.
